Collision Manager — Clash Detection Plugin for Autodesk Revit

Project Overview

A client approached us with a clear need: clash detection inside Revit was either too limited or too complicated. Navisworks does the job — but requires model exports, licensing, and a steep learning curve. The built-in Revit tools lack the flexibility real projects demand.

We built Collision Manager — a Revit add-in that brings powerful, flexible clash detection directly into the design environment. No exports. No additional software. No friction.

The Challenge

Clash detection is one of the most critical quality control steps in BIM — and one of the most painful to execute well:

  • Revit's native tools are too limited — no custom rules, no advanced filtering, no useful reporting
  • Navisworks is powerful but complex — requires model export, separate license, and technical training
  • Every clash check means extra steps — export → open in Navisworks → analyze → return to Revit
  • Existing UI/UX is overloaded — tools designed for power users, not for everyday design teams

The result: clash detection becomes a specialist task instead of a built-in quality gate for every team member.

Our Solution

Collision Manager integrates directly into Revit and gives design teams a practical, fast, and user-friendly clash detection workflow:

  • Custom clash rules — define your own sets: structure vs. MEP, linked models vs. host model, any combination
  • Advanced filters — group and filter elements by category, type, or instance
  • In-Revit visualization — problematic elements highlighted directly in Revit views, not in a separate app
  • Export & reporting — clash results exportable to XML, Excel, and PDF for coordination and documentation
  • No external software — the entire workflow stays inside Revit
  • Intuitive UI — built for designers, not only for BIM managers

Results & Impact

  • Eliminated the need for Navisworks in standard daily clash checks
  • Reduced time to detect and document clashes
  • Made clash detection accessible to all team members, not just BIM managers
  • Prevents design errors from reaching construction phase
  • Positive reception — demo video produced for internal promo and client review
